The GEC team has eight professionals with diverse skills and experiences in financing and operating energy services companies.
Jonathan Fairbanks is a partner and co-founder of GEC. He was a founder and director of the following public companies: Chiles Offshore, Floatel International, Hercules Offshore, Seajacks International and Scorpion Offshore. He also served on the board of Forum Energy Technologies. Prior to 2008, Jonathan was President of Bassøe Offshore, a global leader in offshore drilling rig and vessel brokerage and related company formation.
Jonathan is a trustee of the Center for Strategic & International Studies in Washington, D.C., a board member of the Middle East Investment Initiative and a member of YPO.
Russell Sherrill is a partner and co-founder of GEC. Prior to forming GEC in 2008, he worked at American International Group, where he initiated and executed private investments in the upstream, midstream and energy services sectors, including the management buyout of Kinder Morgan, Inc.. Russell previously worked as an investment banker advising energy executives in capital raises, mergers and acquisitions. At J.P. Morgan & Co., he started and was head of global oilfield services and co-head of North American oil and gas. Before earning an MBA, he worked for Exxon in onshore and offshore oil and gas exploration.
Raised atop an oilfield in the West Texas Permian Basin, Russell has always worked in energy and related investments. He is on the board of trustees for an independent school in Houston and among those who oversee management of its endowment.
Alexander Chmelev is a director with GEC. His responsibilities include sourcing, evaluating and executing potential investments and supporting the growth of GEC portfolio companies. Alexander previously worked for a private equity fund and focused on investments in upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas markets. He also worked at Simmons & Company International advising energy executives in mergers, acquisitions and capital markets transactions.
Raised in Continental Europe, Alexander graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Electrical engineering and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Patrick Yip is a director with GEC. His responsibilities include supporting the growth of GEC platform companies and evaluating new investments. Prior to joining GEC, he worked for a midstream oil and gas company that was backed by a private equity fund. Patrick previously worked in Halliburton’s Corporate Development group where he initiated and executed oilfield services acquisitions, investments, joint ventures and divestitures in Asia, North America and Europe. He began his career as a Wall Street equity research analyst in New York and Beijing.
A native Houstonian, Patrick is fluent in Chinese and experienced in cross-border capital formation and M&A in emerging markets, including China / Hong Kong.
Lana Dial is the office manager of GEC. She maintains and coordinates the financial records for GEC, the distribution of investor reporting and correspondence, and the general management of the office. Prior to joining GEC, Lana worked in other roles assisting senior energy executives.
Lana is a native Houstonian with a Bachelor of Science degree. She currently serves on the board of the YPO – Executive Assistants.
Amy Rozzell is an executive assistant at GEC. She coordinates and maintains GEC business development and marketing activities. Amy has previously worked with another private equity firm, a privately held oil and gas operating company, and a wealthy family office pursuing both wealth management and oil and gas exploration strategies. She has significant experience with customer/supplier interactions, and partnership and oil and gas accounting.
Amy studied business at the University of Houston and is a licensed real estate professional in Texas.
