The GEC team has nine professionals with diverse skills and experiences in financing and operating energy services companies.
Jonathan Fairbanks is a partner and co-founder of GEC. He was a founder and director of the following public companies: Chiles Offshore, Floatel International, Hercules Offshore, Seajacks International and Scorpion Offshore. He also served on the board of Forum Energy Technologies. Prior to 2008, Jonathan was President of Bassøe Offshore, a global leader in offshore drilling rig and vessel brokerage and related company formation.
Jonathan is a trustee of the Center for Strategic & International Studies in Washington, D.C., a board member of the Middle East Investment Initiative and a member of YPO.
Russell Sherrill is a partner and co-founder of GEC and has been active in energy investments for 25 years. Prior to forming GEC in 2008, he worked at AIG initiating and executing private investments in the upstream, midstream and energy services sectors. He previously worked as an investment banker, and at J.P. Morgan & Co., he was global head of oilfield services and co-head of North American oil and gas. Before earning an MBA from the Fuqua School at Duke University, he worked for ExxonMobil in onshore and offshore oil and gas exploration. He also graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.
Russell was raised atop an oilfield in the West Texas Permian Basin. He serves as a trustee overseeing the management of the endowment for a Houston preparatory school. He has been a school board trustee, chairman of the board for a university art museum, and an advisory board member at two universities in forming programs to advance the study of energy and the environment.
Alexander Chmelev is a director with GEC. His responsibilities include sourcing, evaluating and executing potential investments and supporting the growth of GEC portfolio companies. Alexander previously worked for a private equity fund and focused on investments in upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas markets. He also worked at Simmons & Company International advising energy executives in mergers, acquisitions and capital markets transactions.
Raised in Continental Europe, Alexander graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Electrical engineering and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Patrick Yip is a director with GEC. His responsibilities include supporting the growth of GEC platform companies and evaluating new investments. Prior to joining GEC, he worked for a midstream oil and gas company that was backed by a private equity fund. Patrick previously worked in Halliburton’s Corporate Development group where he initiated and executed oilfield services acquisitions, investments, joint ventures and divestitures in Asia, North America and Europe. He began his career as a Wall Street equity research analyst in New York and Beijing.
A native Houstonian, Patrick is fluent in Chinese and experienced in cross-border capital formation and M&A in emerging markets, including China / Hong Kong.
Baron Davis is an Associate at GEC, where he supports all investing activities. He is responsible for modeling, negotiating and executing investments in the upstream, midstream, and oilfield services sectors of the oil and gas industry. Prior to joining GEC, he worked as an energy investment banking analyst at UBS.
A native Houstonian, Baron holds an MS in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and a BA in Economics from Harvard College, where he played baseball for the Crimson.
Cory Hall is an Associate who supports GEC investments. His responsibilities include evaluating and executing new investments, as well as monitoring and supporting the growth of GEC portfolio companies. Prior to joining GEC, Cory worked at Wells Fargo in the Mergers & Acquisitions group, where he specialized in the energy and power industries.
Cory graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University, where he earned a BBA and an MS in Finance. Cory is an avid fan of the Houston Astros and has run his first marathon.
Grant Marcoux is an Associate at GEC. His responsibilities include evaluating and executing new investments, in addition to supporting the growth of our companies. Prior to joining GEC, Grant was an analyst in the oil & gas group of Lazard Frères, where he worked on M&A, strategic advisory, and restructuring transactions.
Grant graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tulsa with a BS in Mathematics and BSBA in Finance. Grant enjoys hiking and is a devoted fan of the OKC Thunder.
Lana Dial is the office manager of GEC. She maintains and coordinates the financial records for GEC, the distribution of investor reporting and correspondence, and the general management of the office. Prior to joining GEC, Lana worked in other roles assisting senior energy executives.
Lana is a native Houstonian with a Bachelor of Science degree. She currently serves on the board of the YPO – Executive Assistants.
Amy Rozzell is an executive assistant at GEC. She coordinates and maintains GEC business development and marketing activities. Amy has previously worked with another private equity firm, a privately held oil and gas operating company, and a wealthy family office pursuing both wealth management and oil and gas exploration strategies. She has significant experience with customer/supplier interactions, and partnership and oil and gas accounting.
A native Houstonian, Amy studied business at the University of Houston, is a licensed real estate professional in Texas and a certified fitness instructor.
